     As a student, I used to procrastinate things whether it was making assignments or submission of any fees. Regarding studies, procrastination is a common practice in every student’s life. However, it's important to address procrastination in our lives as it costs us a lot of time wastage and additional tension of uncompleted tasks. This blog will sort out how to manage procrastination more effectively and constructively.

     Understanding Procrastination

     When we keep on delaying things or postponing tasks to complete them at some other time it is called procrastination. It could be intentional and non-intentional. Most of us have more habits of procrastination. We continue to delay our tasks by saying, I will do it some other time until we reach the deadline.

    There could be psychological reasons behind procrastination as we fear failure. Maybe we did not consider ourselves perfect enough to complete that task. A kind of self-doubt and lack of motivation could be the reason for our procrastination . It is usually defined as a human quality or identity whereas it is actually like a habit that can be changed by using some techniques

    There could be several negative effects of procrastination .it could be anxiety, depression, and lack of confidence in personal life. On the other hand, being a professional could result in reduced productivity, sales, and declining employee performance.

    Identifying Your Procrastination Triggers

    First of all, we should discover the triggers of our procrastination. What kind of tasks are there in which we usually procrastinate? These triggers could vary for different designations for example, procrastination for students may vary from procrastination for housewives or from professionals.        You can break big tasks into small steps to make them accessible and handle them easily. During my final year of college, I broke down a daunting 30-page thesis into daily tasks like researching and writing a few pages. This approach reduced stress, improved quality, and helped me meet the deadline successfully.

    2. Set Specific Goals:

    3. Prioritize Tasks:

      Prioritizing tasks can help us focus on what matters the most. By prioritizing tasks we can increase our productivity by utilizing the time effectively.

        Introduce yourself with techniques like the Pomodoro Technique or time blocking.

      We should eliminate distractions like TV, mobile and social media while doing important tasks.It could save us a lot of energy and time. Try to minimize distractions in your workspace.so that you can focus for what is important.

       It is essential to be kind to ourselves to reduce the stress that can lead to procrastination. Try to stay peaceful even in bothering situations so you can avoid overthinking and procrastination.

     

    7. Use Accountability:

        Having an accountability partner or group could be of immense help. It could result in increased motivation and focus, enhanced commitment, constructive feedback, and emotional support

     

    8. Reward Yourself:

     Celebrate your accomplishments and successes no matter how small they may seem. Feel good about yourself for completing the task successfully. Reward yourself in the form of happiness.

     

     Long-Term Strategies for Maintaining Momentum

    1. Developing Habits:

    Habits can make or break us, so develop a positive, optimistic, and productive habit to not delay things for later otherwise they get piled up.

    2. Reflect and Adjust:

    Reflect on your progress consistently and make adjustments accordingly.For example

     Work Projects Reflection: At the end of each month, I reviewed my project timelines and outcomes, analyzing what went well and what didn't.

    • Adjustment: I found that I was often underestimating the time needed for certain tasks. I started using more detailed project planning and time management tools, which improved my efficiency and helped me meet deadlines more consistently.
